How interest is computed?
To know how the interest is computed, a formula has been given as below:
Earned interest per day = End-of-day balance x (interest rate) x (1/365)
The earned interest is computed daily based on the applicable interest rate and the actual number of days the amount is in the account.
While the total interest earned for the month is the sum of the daily earned for each day in the month.
Earned interest per month = Earned interest per day x N days
if the amount is in the account for the whole month, N=30 or N=31Â
To know more about how the interest is computed and other terms of the 6% interest promo, here is the link, https://www.mayabank.ph/6-interest-legit/.
As an example, how the earned interest is computed from the Maya savings account is shown below:
- Amount deposited (first 2 deposit):
- June 16: ₱ 50.00
- June 16: ₱ 10,000.00
- Interest Rate: 6%Â
- N days: June 16 – June 30, N=15 days the amount is kept in the account
Earned interest per day = End-of-day balance x (interest rate) x (1/365)
Earned interest per day = 10,050 x (6%) x (1/365) = ₱ 1.65
Earned interest per month = Earned interest per day x N days
Earned interest per month = 1.65 x 15 = ₱ 24.78
So for ₱ 10,050 savings for 15 days, you already have earned an interest of ₱ 24.50. What a way to grow your hard earned money. Kept adding more funds and keep the amount longer in the account to earn more and higher interest.
Take note that each month a withholding tax will be deducted from your account. The withholding tax is 20% of the earned interest rate.
Withholding tax = Earned interest per month x 20% = 24.78 x 20% = ₱ 4.96
