How to compute for MP2 dividend and earnings?
Here is an actual MP2 Savings account with savings or payments and the dividend accrued in the year 2020. The declared dividend for the year 2020 is 6.12%. As you can see, savings are made every month and in different amounts for a minimum of P500. But, as mentioned above, it is NOT necessary to pay on a monthly basis.
To check the computation of the dividend received, see the table below. As declared, the dividend rate for 2020 was 6.12%. As you can notice, the monthly savings range from P500 to P1500 and paid on a monthly basis. And in the third column, it is the accumulated amount each month, which is equal to the current month’s savings plus the accumulated amount from previous months. The purpose of the 3rd column or the accumulated amount is only for computing the average accumulated amount per month.
So for the year 2020 of the above MP2 Savings with a total savings amount of PhP 12,000, you will receive a dividend of Php 351.90 for that year. This means, you earn PhP 351.90 for the PhP 12,000 total savings. Please note that this is only for the first year of the MP2 Savings and it will still earn more until maturity after 5 years.
Let say, you continue your MP2 savings with P1000 per month payment (P 12,000 per year). So after 5 years, assuming the dividend rate is still same (6.12%), your savings will earn 9,996.80. So with total savings of 60,000 after 5 years, the total accumulated value of your money is 69, 996.80.
What if instead of monthly savings of 1,000, I save one-time payment of PhP 60,000 at the start of 2020? How much dividend I will receive?
For a one-time payment of PhP 60,000 on January 2020 with a dividend rate of 6.12%, here is the computation for dividend for that year alone:
Dividend for 2020 = P 60,000 x 6.12% x 1 (year)
Dividend for 2020 = P 3,672.00
This is only for your 1st year. For the succeeding years, the principal amount plus the dividend earned each year will earn a dividend also, so after 5 years:
Total dividend after 5 years maturity = PhP 20,749.06
It means your PhP 60,000 savings earn PhP 20,749.06 after 5 years. Now your total accumulated value is 80,749.06.
So, you will notice that you will earn more if you pay a one-time payment compared to monthly payments with the same total amount. But, it does not matter, as long as you save money and earn from it by investing in the MP2 Savings Program.
