Updated 2022: How to Apply NBI Clearance Online

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance is one of the mandatory requirements for any legal purposes and transactions in the Philippines. Having an NBI clearance is a proof that an individual is cleared from any criminal offenses or derogatory records.

The NBI is now issuing a multipurpose NBI clearance with one-year validity. Mainly, NBI clearance is required when seeking a local employment. Other purposes are when travelling abroad, business requirements, naturalization, and among others.

With this development, the NBI created an online registration and application services to obtain an NBI clearance. With this e-service, you can register online and set an appointment date when going to any NBI Branch to get NBI Clearance. Payment options for the transaction are also available through online banking, e-wallets and various over-the-counter payment centers.

STEP 1. ONLINE REGISTRATION

  1. Open the NBI Clearance link (https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/) to start the online registration.

2. Register as a new account by filling up the information needed. If you have NBI clearance issued from 2014 up to present, tick on the YES box, otherwise tick on the NO box.

Select your gender, civil status and birth date. Then, type your first name, middle name and surname. Enter your email address and mobile number. Create your password and confirm it in the next box. 

3. Once you have entered all the information required, tick the READ and ACCEPT box to agree with the Terms of Service

4. Tick I’m not a robot box. A set of images will appear; select all related images of the given category and click the Verify button.

 

5. Click the SIGN UP button to continue. 

6. One-time Passsword (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile phone number. The OTP is used to further ensure the security of your Online NBI clearance transaction. Once the OTP is received, type it in the provided slots. Then click the SUBMIT button to proceed. 

7. Once you have successfully registered your account, you can now sign in to your account.

STEP 2. ACCOUNT SIGN-IN

  1. At the upper corner of the NBI clearance site, you can see the Sign In box. Enter your Email address and Password created when you register your account. Then, click the SIGN IN button to open your account. 

2. Complete all the information stated in your profile.

Double check all the information you have entered. Then, click the SAVE INFORMATION button to continue. And, it will show the complete details of your profile. 

STEP 3. APPLY FOR NBI CLEARANCE - SET AN APPOINTMENT DATE

  1. To apply for NBI cleareance, at the right side of your account, click the APPLY FOR CLEARANCE button to proceed.

2. A pop-up menu will show and it will ask to select the Type of ID and ID presented (ID Number). This must be a government-issued ID and you must present this particular ID when you go to the NBI branch. 

Once you have entered your ID details, click the I Agree button.

  •  UMID (SSS and GSIS)
  • PHILHEALTH
  • VOTERS ID or CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION
  • BIR
  • PAG-IBIG ID (NOT the LOYALTY CARD)
  • POSTAL ID
  • CERTIFICATION FROM THE LOCAL CIVIL REGISTRAR 
  • CERTIFICATION FROM MALACANANG IN CONNECTION WITH INDEGENIOUS GROUPS, TRIBAL MEMBERSHIP, FOUNDLING
  • SOLO PARENT ID
  • COMPANY ID
  • POLICE CLEARANCE ISSUED BY POLICE STATION WHERE APPLICANT IS RESIDENT OD THE STATION’S JURISDICTION
  • SEAMAN’S BOOK and SIRV
  • SCHOOL ID TOGETHER WITH CURRENT REGISTRATION CARD
  • SENIOR CITIZEN ID
  • MARINA

Please keep in mind that Non-Government issued IDs such as Company IDs and Barangay Clearance are NOT ACCEPTED as Valid IDs in proceesing NBI clearance.

3. An important reminder will appear. 

Your REGISTRATION CODE or REFERENCE NUMBER will be provided after you select your PAYMENT OPTION.

Your REFERENCE NUMBER shall be your GATE PASS when you enter NBI Clearance Centers.

To avoid inconvenience and long lines, please pay your NBI CLEARANCE FEE using your REFERENCE NUMBER at the selected PAYMENT OPTION.

Click the Close button after reading the important reminder.

4. Now, you can have the option to select NBI branch where you want to get your NBI clearance. Look for NBI branch or NBI Clearance Center near you or wherever you prefer to process it. Once the branch is selected, slots per day will appear. You can select your preferred date and time, and click that option. 

5. At the right side of the page, you can see the particular of your transactions as well as the appointment schedule details you have selected. 

To complete the transaction, you need to pay for the clearance fee which is 130 pesos and the additional fee of 25 pesos for using the e-payment service; for a total of 155 pesos.

STEP 4. CHOOSE PAYMENT OPTION & PAY THE FEE

1. These are the payment option you can choose to pay for the NBI Clearance fee.

  • Bank Over the Counter 
  • Online Bank
  • Cash Payments
  • ECPay
  • 7-Eleven
  • Visa/Mastercard
  • GCash
  • PayMaya

Once you select the payment option you prefer, follow the payment instructions as you proceed. A Reference Number will be assigned to your application and you will use this to pay for the NBI Clearance fee.

You can see the details of your recent transaction under the Transactions tab. The Reference Number is now generated but the Status is still Pending until the payment is done. 

This is an example of the payment instruction for online banking payment. Follow the steps shown.

After the payment has been successful, proceed back to Transaction tab. Wait for the confirmation of the payment. The Status will become Paid after the payment confirmation. 

Once the Status is Paid, click the Details button. It will pop-up a message of the details of your NBI Clearance application. Please note: Printing of Application form is NOT necessary. You can list down your REFERENCE NUMBER  or screenshot that particular page on your mobile phone.

STEP 5. PROCEED TO NBI BRANCH/NBI CLEARANCE CENTER

1. Go to the selected NBI Branch or NBI Clearance Center on your appointment date. Bring two valid IDs, one of which is the ID you have declared during the online registration.

2. Look for the Biometric and Image Capture Area and present your Reference Number

3. Wait for your turn to have your photo, fingerprint and digital signature to be taken.

4. The NBI Clearance staff will show the information you have declared and ask to review if all details are correct and complete. 

5. If there is no hit, moved to the Printing Area and wait for your NBI Cleareance to be released. If in case you have a hit (that is when you have a same name with a criminal record), they will inform you to go back on a certain date to collect your NBI Clearance.
